One of the strange things about creating a world is realizing that it eventually grows beyond the story you started with.
When I first began writing Tales of Varestal, it was just an idea in my head, a kingdom, a few characters, and a story I wanted to tell. I wasn’t thinking about weekly posts, community events, or building an entire creative space around it.
I just wanted to write.
Over time, though, the project became something larger. New stories formed, new characters appeared, and the world itself started to expand in ways I never originally planned.
Now we have things like Worldbuilding Wednesday, where I get to explore the deeper history and mechanics of the world, and now The Writer’s Forge, where I can talk about the craft behind the stories themselves.
Those additions happened naturally. They came from the same place every story does — curiosity.
I’m curious about how stories work.
I’m curious about why certain characters resonate with readers.
I’m curious about how a single idea can slowly grow into an entire world.
That curiosity is what keeps the project alive.
At the same time, life outside the page never slows down. Balancing work, family, and writing isn’t always simple. Some weeks the words come easily, and other weeks the process feels heavier. But the important thing is that the story keeps moving forward.
That’s something I remind myself often as a writer.
Stories aren’t built in bursts of inspiration.
They’re built through patience.
So whether it’s the next chapter of The Fall of the Duke, a new piece of lore, or a glimpse into the writing process itself, the goal remains the same:
Keep building.
Keep writing.
Keep forging the world one page at a time.
And as always — thank you for being here while it grows.
